Wuppertal is a city in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of western Germany. It is situated in the Bergisches Land hills and is known for its unique transportation system, the Wuppertal Suspension Railway (Wuppertaler Schwebebahn), which is an elevated railway that runs above the Wupper River.

Wuppertal is approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles) east of Düsseldorf. The city has a rich industrial history and was an important center for the textile and chemical industries in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
