Sparta, also known as Sparti in modern Greek, is a city in the Laconia region of the Peloponnese peninsula in southern Greece. Historically, Sparta was a significant city-state in ancient Greece and a major player in the Peloponnesian War. The modern town of Sparti is situated near the site of ancient Sparta.
