Pyongyang is the capital city of North Korea. The city is separated from the Province South P'yongan in the year 1946 and after that it is directly administered city. For the administration purpose, Pyongyang is divided into 19 wards.

Geographically, the city is situated on smooth plains on 30 miles east of Korea Bay, an arm of the Yellow Sea. The Taedong River flowing westward through the city debouches in the Korea Bay.
