The Winter Olympic Games 2026, officially known as Milano–Cortina 2026, will be hosted by Italy and mark the XXV Olympic Winter Games. The event will feature athletes from more than 90 participating countries competing across multiple winter sports disciplines.

The Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will be staged across a multi-city format in northern Italy, with venues spread across Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige regions. Key host locations include Milan, Cortina d’Ampezzo, and surrounding alpine areas, making it one of the most geographically diverse Winter Olympic Games in history.

History of Winter Olympic Games

History of the Olympic Games had its genesis from ancient Greece. Some of these or most of these games were played 3000 years ago and were revived in the second half of the 19 century. From then The Olympic Games became very famous. As it said that History repeats in itself, so with the Olympic Games, it did happen. The first and latest version of modern Olympic Games was conducted in the year 1896 in Athens, which is the capital city of Greece. There were 280 participants from 14 countries, who participated in 43 events. Baron Pierre de Coubertin was a French person who was responsible for the rebirth of Olympic Games. In order to respect the ancient origins of the Olympic Games, they are held every four years as ancient people had conducted in the same manner. The first president of the International Olympic Committee was Demetrius Vikelas.

Winter Olympic Games is in fact intercontinental sports event, which takes place once in a every four years. History of Winter Olympic Games had its traces right form 20th century. The first Winter Olympic Games were conducted in the year 1924 in Chamonix, France. The modern Olympic Games did receive its inspiration from ancient Olympic Games, which were held in Greece. According to the history of Winter Olympic Games, in the beginning there were only Five original Sports in Winter Olympic Games. They were Bobsleigh, Curling, Ice Hockey, Nordic Skiing and Skating. Some of the games were added to the existing sports and disciplines were added like, Alpine Skiing, Iuge, Short track speed Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Skeleton and Snowboarding. Till now there 23 of Winter Olympic Games were conducted. This is the twenty fourth Winter Olympic Games, which are going to be hoisted by China.
