The town has a population of approximately 5,500 residents and covers an area of about 254 square kilometers, making it one of the largest municipalities in the Dolomite region by land area. Cortina d'Ampezzo is located about 120 km north of Venice and approximately 430 km north of Rome. It lies close to the Austrian border, at a distance of around 80 km, and plays an important role as one of Italy’s premier mountain tourism and sports centers, especially as a host venue for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Cortina is a major destination for winter sports and summer hiking.
