Rehearsals for the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony 2022 The rehearsals for the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony 2022 are well underway in Birmingham. The ceremony will take place on July 28 at Alexander Stadium and will be televised to an estimated 1.5 billion people. The creative team behind the ceremony has a mix of global prestige and homegrown talent. They include a globally renowned theatre director and a Birmingham born director. Both have a background in theatre and have performed on world-renowned stages.
The Queen's Baton, which will be carried into the Alexander Stadium for the opening ceremony, will be rehearsed for several months. The rehearsals will be overseen by chief choreographer Corey Baker and creative director Iqbal Khan. The opening ceremony will feature a total of 1,200 performers and will welcome back the Queen's Baton, which will be carried across the Commonwealth. The opening ceremony will be led by Martin Green, who led the London 2012 and Glasgow 2012 ceremonies.
Among the sporting highlights of the 2022 Games are the many new sports that will be included. In addition to the core sports of golf, table tennis, basketball, athletics, rugby union, and hockey, five new sports will be added to the lineup. The Commonwealth Games Charter has recently been updated to reflect the diversity of the Commonwealth family and the diverse range of sports and athletes. These changes will make the games more inclusive and allow more people to participate.
