About Greenland

Greenland is part of North America continent but it is an autonomous territory of Kingdom of Denmark. Greenland is the world’s largest island, located between the Arctic Ocean and the North Atlantic Ocean. A Greenland map shows it northeast of Canada and northwest of Europe. Most of the island is covered by ice, and people mainly live along the coast.

Greenland is divided into five municipalities: Sermersooq, Qeqqata, Kujalleq, Avannaata, and Qeqertalik. The capital and largest city is Nuuk, followed by other cities Sisimiut, Ilulissat, Aasiaat, and Qaqortoq. Ilulissat is famous for its ice fjord and giant icebergs.

Important places include Kangerlussuaq, known for its international airport and former U.S. air base, and Pituffik Space Base (Thule Air Base) in the north. Major airports are in Nuuk, Kangerlussuaq, and Ilulissat.

Greenland is famous for glaciers, northern lights, icebergs, Arctic wildlife, Inuit culture, fishing, and beautiful natural landscapes.

Greenland has a population of about 56,700 people as 2025, making it one of the least densely populated places in the world. It covers a total area of around 2.16 million square kilometers, and its geography is dominated by a massive ice sheet, mountains, fjords, glaciers, and a long Arctic coastline.
