National Football League (NFL) Schedule 2026

The 2026 National Football League season is approaching, and fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the official NFL schedule. The 2026 NFL regular season will follow the modern league format, featuring 18 weeks and 272 games, continuing the expanded structure introduced in recent seasons.

The league is expected to once again include special holiday games, such as fixtures around Christmas and New Year’s, along with a strong prime-time schedule across Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, and Monday Night Football. These marquee matchups have become a key highlight of the NFL calendar.

As of now, the NFL 2026 schedule has not yet been officially released. According to the standard NFL calendar, the regular season is expected to begin in early September 2026, with Week 1 kicking off on a Thursday night, followed by a full slate of games across the weekend. Details regarding the opening matchup, exact dates, kickoff times, and venues will be announced by the NFL closer to the season.

Once released, the complete NFL 2026 schedule including Week-by-week fixtures, match timings, venues, and holiday games will be available on this page.

History of NFL

The league's first season began in 1920 with five Ohio teams, four teams from Illinois, two from Indiana, two from New York, and the Detroit Heralds from Michigan. Only two of these original franchises are still active. The Decatur Staleys moved to Chicago in 1921, and a year later changed their name to the Bears. The Cardinals departed Chicago for St. Louis following the 1959 season, and then they moved to Arizona in 1988. The NFL emerged as the most powerful American professional football league after enduring many years of instability and rivalry. The American Football League (AFL) presented its dominant position with the biggest threat in the 1960s. In 1970, the NFL and AFL combined to become what is now known as the NFL, a 26-team league. The league has since grown four times, adding six new franchises.
