About Map of Africa
The northern part of the African continent is known as North Africa or Northern Africa. According to widespread consensus, the term "Northern Africa" refers to the northernmost part of the continent of Africa, which stretches from the Atlantic coast of Morocco in the west to the Suez Canal and the Red Sea in the east. Three major geographical features can be found in Northern Africa and they are the Sahara desert in the south, the Atlas Mountains in the west, and the Nile River and its delta in the east. The Sahara Desert is the biggest sand desert in the world. Northern Africa is composed of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, and Western Sahara.
The Atlas Mountains, which span portions of Morocco, northern Algeria, and Tunisia, divide Northern Africa from the rest of the continent. The region has a Mediterranean climate and is geographically isolated from the rest of the continent by these mountains. With countries and regions outside of Africa, particularly the Mediterranean and Southwest Asian cultures, it has a long history of political and cultural relations.
Most farming occurs in narrow valleys protected by the mountains from strong winds, the Atlas Mountain Range also helped to facilitate agriculture in the area. This kind of farming is also practiced in the alcoves made in the Nile Valley, the Nile Delta, and along the Mediterranean shore. A wide range of products, including cereals, rice, cotton, and woods like cedar and cork, can be cultivated in the protected conditions of valley farming in Northern Africa. Crops like olives, figs, dates, and citrus fruits are also grown along the Mediterranean shore.
