DeRidder is a city located in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, the United States. It is the parish seat of Beauregard Parish and lies in western Louisiana, about 10 miles east of the Texas state line. DeRidder is about 55 miles north of Lake Charles, 75 miles south of Alexandria, and roughly 90 miles east of Beaumont, Texas. The city is located at approximately 30.8485° North latitude and 93.2897° West longitude. DeRidder covers about 9.92 square miles (25.69 sq km) and had 9,852 residents in the 2020 Census. The surrounding landscape includes pine forests, wetlands, creeks, and gently rolling terrain. DeRidder was named after Ella de Ridder, the wife of a Belgian railroad investor, and was incorporated in 1903. The arrival of railroads helped the community grow, while timber and forest products became major parts of the local economy. The city is home to the Beauregard Parish Courthouse and the Gothic-style Beauregard Parish Jail, a historic landmark built in 1915.
