Westwego is a city located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, the United States. It is in southeastern Louisiana, about 8 miles southwest of downtown New Orleans, 10 miles west of the French Quarter, and approximately 15 miles north of Kenner. Westwego lies at approximately 29.906° North latitude and 90.142° West longitude. The city had 8,568 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 3.78 square miles, or 9.79 square kilometers. Westwego developed as a river and transportation community along the Mississippi River and became an important location for shipping, fishing, and trade. The city's name is often linked to the phrase "West We Go," associated with local railroad history and transportation across the river.
