Americus is a city in the Southwest Georgia region and serves as the county seat of Sumter County. It is part of the Americus micropolitan area and is located about 70 miles south of Columbus. The city is known for the historic Windsor Hotel, Georgia Southwestern State University, and its close connection to Plains, the hometown of President Jimmy Carter.

Americus is a city located in Sumter County, Georgia, the United States. The city is situated in southwestern Georgia along U.S. Highways 19 and 280. It is approximately 10 miles (16 km) east of Plains, 40 miles (64 km) west of Cordele, and about 70 miles (113 km) south of Columbus. Americus is located at 32.0724° North latitude and 84.2327° West longitude. According to the 2020 United States Census, the city had a population of 16,230. Americus covers approximately 13.13 square miles (34.01 sq km). The city is best known for the beautifully restored Windsor Hotel, Georgia Southwestern State University, and as the headquarters of Habitat for Humanity International's global village and discovery center.
