Cairo is a city in southwest Georgia and the county seat of Grady County. It is about 35 miles northwest of Tallahassee, Florida, and 40 miles south of Albany. The city is known as the “Syrup City” for its agricultural heritage and is also known for its historic downtown and location between Tallahassee and Thomasville.

Cairo is a city located in Grady County, Georgia, the United States. It is about 35 miles northwest of Tallahassee, Florida, and 40 miles south of Albany, Georgia. Cairo is located at approximately 30.8771° North latitude and 84.2013° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 9,474 residents, and the city covers about 9.75 square miles (25.25 sq km). Downtown Cairo and the historic Grady County Courthouse are important local landmarks. Cairo was incorporated in 1890 and became the county seat when Grady County was created in 1905. The city is known for its agricultural economy, especially pecans and cane syrup, which helped give Cairo its nickname, “Syrup City.”
