Where is Commerce Located?
Commerce is a city located in Jackson County, Georgia, the United States. It lies about 15 miles northwest of Athens and roughly 65 miles northeast of Atlanta. Commerce is located at approximately 34.2040° North latitude and 83.4574° West longitude. The city covers about 14.36 square miles (37.19 sq km) and had 7,387 residents in the 2020 Census. The surrounding area features rolling hills, farms, forests, and small waterways typical of northeast Georgia. Commerce began as a community called Harmony Grove and took its current name in the 19th century. It was incorporated in 1904. The city grew through agriculture, textiles, rail transportation, and commerce. Today, Interstate 85 provides a major north-south connection, while downtown Commerce retains historic buildings and local businesses. The city is also known for Tanger Outlets, a major shopping destination near the interstate.
