Cordele is a city located in Crisp County, Georgia, the United States. It is the county seat of Crisp County and lies about 50 miles south of Macon and roughly 45 miles northwest of Tifton. Cordele is located at approximately 31.9635° North latitude and 83.7824° West longitude. The city covers about 10.15 square miles (26.29 sq km) and had 10,147 residents in the 2020 Census. The surrounding landscape is mostly flat farmland, with pine forests and wetlands common across south-central Georgia. Cordele was founded in 1888 and incorporated in 1890. The city grew around the railroad and agriculture and became an important transportation point for the region. Cordele is widely known as the Watermelon Capital of the World because of its long history of watermelon farming and shipping. Lake Blackshear and Georgia Veterans State Park are nearby outdoor attractions.
