Where is Cumming Located?
Cumming is a city located in Forsyth County, Georgia, the United States. It is the county seat of Forsyth County and lies about 40 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, 15 miles south of Gainesville, and roughly 20 miles west of Dawsonville. Cumming is located at approximately 34.2073° North latitude and 84.1402° West longitude. The city covers about 7.69 square miles (19.92 sq km) and had 7,318 residents in the 2020 Census. The wider Forsyth County area has grown quickly as the Atlanta metropolitan area has expanded northward. Lake Lanier lies just east and northeast of Cumming and provides boating, fishing, swimming, and other outdoor activities. Cumming was incorporated in 1834 and was named for Colonel William Cumming. The city serves as the main government and commercial center of Forsyth County. Its historic downtown includes the Forsyth County Courthouse and local shops and restaurants. The Sawnee Mountain Preserve is also nearby and offers hiking trails and views across the North Georgia landscape.
