Dahlonega is a city located in Lumpkin County, Georgia, the United States. It is the county seat of Lumpkin County and lies about 65 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, 30 miles north of Gainesville, and roughly 15 miles south of Cleveland. Dahlonega is located at approximately 34.5326° North latitude and 83.9843° West longitude. The city covers about 8.85 square miles (22.92 sq km) and had 7,294 residents in the 2020 Census. The area is part of the southern Blue Ridge Mountains and has wooded hills, streams, waterfalls, and mountain ridges. Dahlonega was incorporated in 1833 and became famous after gold was discovered in the area in 1828. The Dahlonega Gold Museum in the historic courthouse tells the story of the Georgia Gold Rush. Today, the city is also known for its wineries and vineyards. Nearby attractions include Amicalola Falls State Park and the Chattahoochee National Forest. The Appalachian Trail is also within easy reach of the city.
