Where is Hampton Located?

Hampton is a city located in Henry County, Georgia, the United States. It lies in central Georgia about 30 miles south of downtown Atlanta and roughly 10 miles south of McDonough. Hampton is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and sits among the rolling hills and wooded landscapes of the Piedmont region. The city is located at approximately 33.387° North latitude and 84.286° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,368 residents. Hampton covers about 5.04 square miles, or 13.05 square kilometers, including land and water. The community developed around the railroad in the 19th century and was incorporated in 1873. Its historic downtown reflects the city's early railroad and agricultural roots. Hampton is best known outside the area for Atlanta Motor Speedway, a major NASCAR racing venue located just south of the city. Lake Jackson and nearby parks provide opportunities for fishing, boating, hiking, and other outdoor activities. U.S. Route 19/41 and Georgia State Route 20 provide convenient road connections to Atlanta, McDonough, Griffin, and other communities. Hampton's location south of Atlanta makes it part of the growing suburban landscape of the metropolitan region.
