Jackson is a city located in Butts County, Georgia, the United States. It lies in central Georgia, about 50 miles south of Atlanta and roughly 25 miles northeast of Macon. Jackson serves as the county seat of Butts County and sits near the Ocmulgee River and several large reservoirs. The city is located at approximately 33.294° North latitude and 83.966° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 5,076 residents. Jackson covers about 6.20 square miles, or 16.06 square kilometers. The city was incorporated in 1826 and developed as a regional center for farming, trade, and transportation. Historic downtown Jackson is centered around a traditional courthouse square with older commercial buildings and local landmarks. High Falls State Park, one of the region's best-known attractions, is located a short drive north and offers waterfalls, hiking, boating, fishing, and camping.
