Live Oak is a city located in Suwannee County, Florida, the United States. It lies in North Florida, about 70 miles west of Jacksonville and roughly 35 miles southeast of Valdosta, Georgia. Live Oak is located at approximately 30.294° North latitude and 82.984° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,735 residents, and the city covers about 7.07 square miles (18.31 sq km). The community was settled in the 19th century and developed as a railroad and agricultural center. Live Oak became the county seat of Suwannee County and remains an important service center for the surrounding farming and rural communities. The city takes its name from the live oak trees that are common across the region. The Suwannee River, one of North Florida's best-known waterways, flows west of the city and provides opportunities for boating, fishing, paddling, and wildlife viewing.
