The city is located at approximately 33.345° North latitude and 84.109° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,929 residents, and Locust Grove covers about 11.08 square miles (28.70 sq km). The community was incorporated in 1893 and grew around the railroad, which helped establish it as a local commercial and agricultural center. The name Locust Grove refers to the grove of trees that was once found in the area. The city has expanded considerably as the Atlanta metropolitan area has grown southward along Interstate 75.
