Lovejoy is a city located in Clayton County, Georgia, the United States. It lies in the southern part of the Atlanta metropolitan area, about 20 miles south of downtown Atlanta and roughly 10 miles south of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Lovejoy is located at approximately 33.442° North latitude and 84.314° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,902 residents, and the city covers about 7.48 square miles (19.37 sq km). The community was founded in the 19th century and developed around the railroad and agriculture. Lovejoy was incorporated in 1974 and takes its name from Evan P. Lovejoy, a prominent abolitionist and newspaper editor. The city's railroad history remains an important part of its local identity. Nearby Clayton County International Park offers a large lake, beaches, walking trails, sports facilities, and outdoor recreation. The Flint River also runs through the broader area and supports wildlife and natural habitats.
