Where is McRae–Helena Located?
McRae–Helena is a city located in Telfair County, Georgia, the United States. It lies in south-central Georgia, about 95 miles southeast of Macon and roughly 115 miles west of Savannah. McRae–Helena is located at approximately 32.069° North latitude and 82.901° West longitude. The city was formed in 2015 through the consolidation of the former cities of McRae and Helena. McRae had been incorporated in 1870, while Helena developed later around the railroad. The community serves as the county seat of Telfair County and remains an important local center for government, agriculture, commerce, and services. The area's development was strongly influenced by rail transportation, which helped connect the region's timber, agricultural, and manufacturing activities with larger markets. Today, McRae–Helena has a small-town setting with residential neighborhoods, local businesses, schools, churches, and a historic downtown area. The surrounding landscape consists mainly of pine forests, farmland, wetlands, and the sandy soils typical of Georgia's Coastal Plain.
