Milledgeville is a city located in Baldwin County, Georgia, the United States. It is situated in central Georgia along the Oconee River, about 30 miles northeast of Macon and about 90 miles southeast of Atlanta. Eatonton is roughly 25 miles northwest, while Madison is about 35 miles north. Milledgeville is positioned near 33.081° North latitude and 83.232° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 17,715 residents. The city covers about 20.45 square miles, or 52.97 square kilometers. Milledgeville is best known for its historic role as Georgia's fourth state capital from 1804 to 1868. The Georgia's Old Governor's Mansion is one of its most important landmarks and is now a National Historic Landmark. A unique fact about the city is that it served as Georgia's political center during much of the state's antebellum period before the capital moved to Atlanta.
