Oakdale is a city located in Allen Parish, Louisiana, the United States. It lies in west-central Louisiana, about 45 miles north of Lake Charles and roughly 70 miles west of Alexandria. Kinder is about 15 miles southwest, while Oberlin is around 15 miles south. Oakdale is positioned near 30.816° North latitude and 92.663° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,435 residents. The city covers about 5.57 square miles, or 14.43 square kilometers, including land and water. Oakdale is surrounded by a mixture of pine forests, wetlands, pasture, and agricultural land typical of west-central Louisiana. The city developed as a railroad and timber community and became the parish seat of Allen Parish. Oakdale was incorporated in 1911.
