Where is Palmetto Located?
Palmetto is a city located in Fulton County and Coweta County, Georgia, the United States. It lies southwest of Atlanta in the Piedmont region, about 25 miles from downtown Atlanta and roughly 15 miles east of Newnan. Fairburn is around 10 miles northeast, while Peachtree City is about 15 miles southeast. Palmetto is positioned near 33.517° North latitude and 84.669° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 4,263 residents. The city covers about 11.80 square miles, or 30.56 square kilometers. Palmetto developed in the 19th century around the railroad, which helped connect the community with Atlanta and other parts of Georgia. The historic downtown still reflects the city's early commercial and transportation history. Nearby Cochran Mill Park provides hiking trails, waterfalls, streams, and wooded scenery, while Chattahoochee Hills offers open countryside and conservation areas. Palmetto was incorporated in 1854.
