Where is Powder Springs Located?
Powder Springs is a city located in Cobb County, Georgia, the United States. It lies in northwest Georgia within the Atlanta metropolitan area, about 25 miles west of downtown Atlanta and roughly 10 miles southwest of Marietta. Austell is around 8 miles east, while Dallas is about 15 miles northwest. Powder Springs is positioned near 33.859° North latitude and 84.684° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 16,887 residents. The city covers about 11.41 square miles, or 29.55 square kilometers. Powder Springs was incorporated in 1839 and developed around mineral springs that were once an important local feature. The city takes its name from these springs and its early association with the Powder family. Historic downtown Powder Springs preserves part of the community's early character, while newer residential areas connect the city to the larger Atlanta suburbs. The Silver Comet Trail is one of the area's most popular recreational attractions. The paved trail follows a former railroad route and provides opportunities for walking, cycling, and running. A unique fact about Powder Springs is that its name comes from mineral springs that were once located near the community.
