Riverdale is a city located in Clayton County, Georgia, the United States. It lies south of Atlanta in the southern part of the metropolitan area, about 12 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta and roughly 6 miles south of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. College Park is around 8 miles west, while Jonesboro is about 8 miles southeast. Riverdale is positioned near 33.572° North latitude and 84.414° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 15,159 residents. The city covers about 4.54 square miles, or 11.76 square kilometers. Riverdale was incorporated in 1908 and developed from a small railroad community into a suburban city as the Atlanta metropolitan area expanded. Its location along major transportation routes helped connect the community with Atlanta and nearby Clayton County towns.
