Stonecrest is a city located in DeKalb County, Georgia, the United States. It lies in the eastern Atlanta metropolitan area, about 20 miles east of downtown Atlanta and roughly 15 miles southeast of Decatur. Lithonia is about 5 miles north, while Conyers is approximately 15 miles east of Stonecrest. The city is located at 33.6835° North latitude and 84.1102° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 59,194 residents. Stonecrest covers about 37.97 square miles, or approximately 98.34 square kilometers. Interstate 20 provides a major transportation connection between the city, Atlanta, and communities farther east. The area is known for exposed granite formations, forests, wetlands, and protected natural areas. Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area is one of the region's most important attractions, with unusual granite outcrops, historic quarry landscapes, lakes, trails, and native plants. Stonecrest was incorporated in 2017 after separating from unincorporated DeKalb County. A unique feature of the city is its location within a nationally recognized natural and cultural landscape while remaining part of the large Atlanta metropolitan area.
