Villa Rica is a city located in Carroll County and Douglas County, Georgia, the United States. It is in west-central Georgia, approximately 30 miles west of Atlanta and 15 miles east of Carrollton. Villa Rica lies at about 33.732° North latitude and 84.916° West longitude. The city had 16,970 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 34.4 square miles, or 89.1 square kilometers. Villa Rica was established in the 19th century and developed around gold mining, agriculture, and the arrival of the railroad. The city was named Villa Rica, meaning "rich village," because of the area's early gold discoveries. Historic downtown Villa Rica reflects this mining and railroad heritage.
