Chillicothe is located at approximately 40.9217° North latitude and 89.4865° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded about 9,240 residents, and the city covers approximately 4.34 square miles (11.24 sq km). The Illinois River forms an important part of the city's western side and supports recreation and wildlife in the area. Chillicothe was founded in the 1830s and incorporated as a city in 1890.
