Clinton is a city located in DeWitt County, Illinois, the United States. It is the county seat of DeWitt County and is about 30 miles northeast of Decatur and 35 miles southwest of Bloomington. Clinton is located at approximately 40.1536° North latitude and 88.9645° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 6,869 residents, and the city covers about 3.89 square miles (10.08 sq km). Clinton grew as an agricultural and railroad community during the 19th century. The city was founded in 1835 and incorporated in 1858. Clinton Lake, a large reservoir east of the city, is one of the area's main recreation destinations and offers fishing, boating, camping, and hiking.
