Collinsville is a city located in Madison County, Illinois, the United States. It is about 12 miles east of downtown St. Louis, Missouri, and 8 miles east of the Mississippi River. Collinsville is located at approximately 38.6703° North latitude and 89.9840° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 24,707 residents, and the city covers about 14.50 square miles (37.55 sq km). Collinsville was settled in the early 19th century and incorporated in 1850. Its location along major transportation routes helped the city grow as a regional center for trade and industry. The area is especially known for Cahokia Mounds, a major prehistoric Native American site just south of the city, and for its connection to the historic U.S. Route 66.
