It is a coastal community on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Halifax River, about 5 miles south of Daytona Beach and 10 miles north of Ponce Inlet. The city is located at approximately 29.1658° North latitude and 81.0001° West longitude. Daytona Beach Shores covers about 0.6 square miles (1.6 sq km) and had 5,179 residents in the 2020 Census. Its narrow shape gives the city a strong connection to the beach, ocean, and Intracoastal Waterway. Daytona Beach Shores was incorporated in 1960 after residents formed a separate community from nearby Daytona Beach. The city is known for its wide sandy beach, beachfront parks, and oceanfront residential buildings. McElroy Park and nearby Frank Rendon Park provide beach access and recreation areas. The city is also close to Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, one of the most recognizable historic landmarks in the region.
