It is a coastal community on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and the Halifax River, about 5 miles south of Daytona Beach and 10 miles north of Ponce Inlet. The city is located at approximately 29.1658° North latitude and 81.0001° West longitude. Daytona Beach Shores covers about 0.6 square miles (1.6 sq km) and had 5,179 residents in the 2020 Census. Its narrow shape gives the city a strong connection to the beach, ocean, and Intracoastal Waterway. Daytona Beach Shores was incorporated in 1960 after residents formed a separate community from nearby Daytona Beach.
