Where is Du Quoin Located?

Du Quoin is a city located in Perry County, Illinois, the United States. It is situated in southern Illinois, about 70 miles southeast of St. Louis, Missouri, and approximately 55 miles south of Mount Vernon. Du Quoin lies at about 38.01° North latitude and 89.24° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 2,812 residents. The city covers approximately 4.95 square miles (12.82 square kilometers), including about 4.91 square miles of land and 0.04 square miles of water. Du Quoin developed as a coal-mining and railroad community during the 19th century. The city was named after Jean Baptiste Du Quoin, a member of the Kaskaskia people whose name was associated with the area. Du Quoin is best known today for hosting the Du Quoin State Fair, one of Illinois' major annual agricultural fairs. The city is also close to Pyramid State Recreation Area and Rend Lake, providing access to fishing, boating, hiking, hunting, and other outdoor activities.
