Eureka is a city located in Woodford County, Illinois, the United States. It sits in central Illinois, about 20 miles northeast of Peoria, 25 miles southwest of Bloomington, and roughly 35 miles northwest of Pontiac. Eureka is positioned at approximately 40.716° North latitude and 89.272° West longitude. The city covers about 3.87 square miles, or 10.02 square kilometers, of land. The 2020 Census recorded 5,227 residents, while the 2023 population estimate was about 5,300. Eureka stands at an elevation of roughly 750 feet above sea level. Eureka College is the city's most prominent landmark and was the alma mater of Ronald Reagan, who graduated in 1932. The college campus and Reagan Museum preserve an important part of the city's history. Eureka was founded by European American settlers in the 1850s and developed as an agricultural and educational center in Woodford County.
