It lies in the Metro East area of the St. Louis metropolitan region, about 15 miles east of downtown St. Louis and roughly 8 miles west of Belleville. Fairview Heights is positioned at approximately 38.589° North latitude and 89.990° West longitude. The city covers about 11.52 square miles, or 29.84 square kilometers, of land. The 2020 Census recorded 16,706 residents, while the 2023 population estimate was about 16,500. Fairview Heights stands at an elevation of roughly 500 feet above sea level.
