Green Cove Springs is a city located in Clay County, Florida, the United States. It lies along the eastern bank of the St. Johns River in northeast Florida, about 25 miles southwest of Jacksonville and roughly 30 miles northwest of St. Augustine. Green Cove Springs is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area and is connected to nearby communities by U.S. Highway 17 and Florida State Road 16. The city is located at approximately 29.992° North latitude and 81.678° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 9,786 residents. Green Cove Springs covers about 7.34 square miles, or 19.01 square kilometers, including land and water. The city was incorporated in 1874 and grew around a natural mineral spring that became a popular health resort in the 19th century. Spring Park remains one of the city's best-known landmarks and includes the spring, waterfront, swimming facilities, and shaded recreation areas. The city's St. Johns River setting also gives it access to boating, fishing, wildlife viewing, and scenic waterfront activities.
