Loves Park is a city located in Winnebago County, Illinois, the United States. It lies in northern Illinois along the Rock River, about 5 miles north of Rockford and roughly 75 miles northwest of Chicago. Loves Park is located at approximately 42.320° North latitude and 89.058° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 23,996 residents, and the city covers about 8.68 square miles (22.48 sq km). The community was developed in the early 20th century by Malcolm Love, who purchased land along the Rock River and helped establish the settlement that became Loves Park. The city was incorporated in 1947 and grew as a residential and industrial community near Rockford. Rock Cut State Park is one of the area's best-known attractions and offers hiking, fishing, boating, camping, and wildlife viewing around Pierce Lake and Olson Beach. The Rock River also provides a scenic setting through the city and supports boating, fishing, and recreation. A unique feature of Loves Park is its location along a major river immediately north of Rockford, making the two communities closely connected.
