Marengo is a city located in McHenry County, Illinois, the United States. It lies in northeastern Illinois, about 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and roughly 15 miles west of Woodstock. Marengo is located at approximately 42.249° North latitude and 88.608° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,601 residents, and the city covers about 3.89 square miles (10.08 sq km). Marengo was founded in 1835 and incorporated in 1853. The community grew as settlers established farms and businesses in the area, followed by railroad connections that helped Marengo become a local trading center. Today, the city retains a small-town character while benefiting from its location within the Chicago metropolitan region.
