Where is Mascoutah Located?

Mascoutah is a city located in St. Clair County, Illinois, the United States. It lies in southwestern Illinois, about 25 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri, and roughly 15 miles southeast of Belleville. Mascoutah is located at approximately 38.490° North latitude and 89.794° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,483 residents, and the city covers about 5.30 square miles (13.73 sq km). Mascoutah was founded in 1837 and incorporated in 1847. The community developed in an agricultural part of St. Clair County and grew as roads and railroads connected local farms with larger markets. Today, Mascoutah has a mix of established neighborhoods, newer residential areas, local businesses, schools, parks, and farmland. The city's historic downtown reflects its long history, with older commercial buildings and civic landmarks. Scott Air Force Base is located just west of Mascoutah and is an important military installation and economic center in the region. Mascoutah is also close to the Kaskaskia River and several parks and conservation areas.
