Mendota is a city located in LaSalle County, Illinois, the United States. It lies in north-central Illinois, about 90 miles west of Chicago, 35 miles southeast of Rockford, and roughly 20 miles north of Princeton. Mendota is located at approximately 41.548° North latitude and 89.117° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,372 residents, and the city covers about 5.33 square miles (13.80 sq km). Mendota was founded in the 1850s and incorporated in 1855. The city developed rapidly after railroads reached the area, becoming an important junction for agricultural transportation. Railroad activity helped connect local farmers and businesses with Chicago and other Midwestern markets.
