Paris is a city located in Edgar County, Illinois, the United States. It lies in eastern Illinois near the Indiana state line, about 85 miles west of Terre Haute and roughly 90 miles south of Champaign. Charleston is around 25 miles southwest, while Danville is about 45 miles northwest. Paris is positioned near 39.612° North latitude and 87.696° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 8,291 residents. The city covers about 6.20 square miles, or 16.06 square kilometers. Paris serves as the county seat of Edgar County and has been an important commercial center for the surrounding farming region since the 19th century. The historic downtown includes the Edgar County Courthouse and several older commercial buildings. The city was founded in 1823 and incorporated in 1857.
