Plano is a city located in Kendall County, Illinois, the United States. It lies in northeastern Illinois, about 50 miles west of downtown Chicago and roughly 15 miles southwest of Aurora. Yorkville is around 7 miles north, while Oswego is about 10 miles northeast. Plano is positioned near 41.663° North latitude and 88.538° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 11,847 residents. The city covers about 7.09 square miles, or 18.36 square kilometers. Plano developed in the 19th century as a farming and railroad community and later became known for manufacturing. The arrival of the railroad helped connect the town with Chicago and other markets, supporting agriculture and local industry. One of the city's most famous landmarks is the Farnsworth House, located nearby in Plano. Designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and completed in 1951, the house is considered an important example of modernist architecture. Plano was incorporated in 1872.
