Rochelle is a city located in Ogle County and Lee County, Illinois, the United States. It lies in northern Illinois, about 80 miles west of Chicago and roughly 25 miles south of Rockford. DeKalb is around 20 miles northeast, while Oregon is about 20 miles southwest. Rochelle is positioned near 41.923° North latitude and 89.069° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 9,886 residents. The city covers about 13.95 square miles, or 36.13 square kilometers. Rochelle was founded in the 1850s and incorporated in 1855. Its development was strongly influenced by railroads, and the city became an important transportation point because several major rail lines meet in the area. Rochelle Railroad Park is one of the city's best-known attractions and provides a public viewing area where visitors can watch freight and passenger trains pass through the busy junction.
