Silvis is a city located in Rock Island County, Illinois, the United States. It lies in northwestern Illinois within the Quad Cities region, near the Rock River and Mississippi River valleys. Silvis is about 12 miles east of Davenport, Iowa, 8 miles east of Moline, and roughly 10 miles northeast of Rock Island. East Moline borders the city to the west. Silvis is located at 41.5123° North latitude and 90.4157° West longitude. The 2020 Census recorded 7,085 residents. The city covers about 3.57 square miles (9.25 square kilometers), with most of the area consisting of land. The Rock River and nearby Mississippi River form important geographic features for the region. Silvis is closely linked to the railroad industry and is home to the former Silvis Railway Shops, an important part of the area's industrial history. A unique feature of the city is its connection to the historic railroad community known as the "Railroad Retirement Community."
