University Heights is a city located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, the United States. It is an eastern suburb of Cleveland in Northeast Ohio, about 9 miles east of downtown Cleveland and close to Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, and South Euclid. University Heights lies at approximately 41.497° North latitude and 81.536° West longitude. The city had 13,914 residents in the 2020 Census and has about 1.83 square miles, or 4.74 square kilometers, of land area. The community is best known for John Carroll University, whose campus has been part of University Heights since the 1920s. The city was originally known as Idlewood Village before adopting the University Heights name in 1925. It became a city in 1940. Local parks such as Purvis Park and Walter Stinson Community Park provide recreation, while nearby Coventry Village and University Circle offer cultural, educational, and entertainment attractions.
