It is in the western suburbs of the Chicago metropolitan area, about 30 miles west of downtown Chicago, 5 miles west of Naperville, and close to Wheaton and Winfield. Warrenville lies at approximately 41.817° North latitude and 88.173° West longitude. The city had 13,553 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 5.68 square miles, or 14.71 square kilometers. Warrenville was settled in the 1830s and was named after Warren Wheaton, one of the early settlers of DuPage County. The city developed along the West Branch of the DuPage River and later benefited from nearby railroad and highway connections.
