West Chicago is a city located in DuPage County, Illinois, the United States. It is in the western suburbs of Chicago, about 30 miles west of downtown Chicago, 10 miles north of Aurora, and approximately 7 miles west of Wheaton. West Chicago lies at about 41.884° North latitude and 88.204° West longitude. The city had 25,614 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 15.71 square miles, or 40.69 square kilometers. West Chicago was established in the 19th century as a major railroad junction, and its early growth was closely tied to rail transportation and agriculture. The community was originally known as Turner Junction before taking the name West Chicago. The railroad remains an important part of the city's history and transportation network. Nearby attractions include West DuPage Woods Forest Preserve, Kline Creek Farm, and the West Chicago Prairie Forest Preserve.
