It is in southeastern Florida, about 7 miles southwest of downtown Miami, 5 miles west of Coral Gables, and approximately 10 miles east of Doral. West Miami lies at approximately 25.756° North latitude and 80.296° West longitude. The city had 6,606 residents in the 2020 Census and covers about 0.68 square miles, or 1.76 square kilometers. West Miami was incorporated in 1947 and developed as a small residential community surrounded by the expanding Miami urban area. Its compact size makes it one of the smaller municipalities in Miami-Dade County. The city has a mostly residential character, with local parks, schools, businesses, and neighborhood streets.
